DISCIPLESHIP BIBLE SCHOOL (DBS)
Study God’s Word In Depth And Experience Transformation

AN IMPORTANT UPDATE

Two years ago YWAM Minneapolis moved from its Rockford location to Eden Prairie, beginning a journey to move into the heart of Minneapolis and St. Paul. We are now ready to take the next step!

As part of this move, a few key transitions are taking place.

At the end of May (2023), we will leave Eden Prairie and begin meeting regularly inside the Twin Cities as a staff team. Our ministry focus will be on building relationships and serving within the Cities. In this process, we are seeking the Lord as to how YWAM’s three-fold ministry of Training, Evangelism, and Mercy Ministries will be expressed in our new urban context.

Our regular training schools have been put on pause while we make these adjustments.

To facilitate these changes, the leadership will go through some transitions as well. We have put in place a Transitional Leadership Team who are receiving regular input from all staff members.

Most importantly, at this time we are praying and seeking the Lord as to what a re-pioneered YWAM Minneapolis looks like. Although transitions can be uneasy seasons, the staff team is active, full of vision, and excited about what the Lord is doing!

Please join us in prayer and seeking what the Lord has for YWAM Minneapolis!

Thank you!

WHY DO A SECONDARY SCHOOL?

While DTS is primarily focused on who God is and developing an intimate relationship with Him that can be shared with others, secondary schools focus on developing your skills, knowledge and abilities to better equip you to be a more effective carrier of the Good News of Jesus. They also help you go deeper in your relationship with God and strengthen your foundation of faith.

DISCIPLESHIP BIBLE SCHOOL (DBS)

Encounter God and see His story unfold as you study the Bible under dynamic teachers and within a passionate community. Observe the chronology of biblical events, better understand each book in its historical context, understand the harmony between the books, know why it was written, and grasp the main ideas. While in DBS you will learn the foundational truths of Christianity. There is no better way to know God’s character, God’s ways, and God’s voice than to dive into His Word with His Spirit as your teacher. The DBS takes the next step through immersion in the story of Scripture in the context of a community that is pursuing Jesus together. Spend time in His Word and discover who He is and learn about His redemptive love story for humanity. Discover how the Bible is a key element in knowing God and making Him known.

COURSE PROGRAM

Classroom Learning

IMG_8485

Lectures with a special guest speaker for each week will focus on the books you are chronologically studying to help you better understand each in its historical context. You will also explore the harmony between the books, learn to recognize the different genres of literature, as well as identify major themes and topics found throughout the entire Bible. Each book is filled with insights to be discovered!

Homework Assignments

BCC school

Homework assignments consist of studying the historical background, working on a creative timeline that includes (a) biblical events, (b) revelation of God’s character and nature as well as (c) God’s redemptive plan. All the homework builds toward the “end product” of preparing  and teaching a 30-minute message on God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation.

One-on-One Processing

You will be assigned a mentor as you continue the discipleship process begun in the DTS. Together you will address a variety of topics illuminated in the Scriptures, focusing on building godly character and developing a lifelong hunger and love for the Word. Your one-on-one will help you process and apply what God is teaching you, and keep your focus on growing your relationship with Him.

Small Groups

Every weekday you will meet in small groups. This is the exciting part where you will take turns and read aloud Genesis to Revelation over the course of the 12 weeks! There will also be time for discussion and answering questions. Twice a week, a selected passage will be studied inductively. Uncovering truth and applying it is what leads to transformation!

Work Duties

Work duties (aka community responsibilities) are an opportunity to give back to the YWAM ministry by helping steward what God has entrusted to us. Together with other students you will serve in the kitchen, housekeeping and taking care of the ministry vehicles. This also provides a welcome break from all the  studying. 😊

Community Living

IMG_3095

We believe that we grow best when living and learning together. Throughout each week, you will get to connect with the rest of the staff and students as you participate in worship and intercession, share meals, and work together. Even though community can be stretching, sharing life with others with a similar focus shapes you to become more like Jesus.

Student response

My Bible school at YWAM Minneapolis transformed the way I understand my relationship with God. Before this school, I would open up my Bible and struggle to understand. Now every time I open the Bible I read a treasured story that I never want to put down!”

FAQ'S

While an outreach is technically not required for secondary schools, we  strongly encourage students to do an outreach after the lecture phase. Outreach allows the information and experiences from the Lecture Phase to become more a part of your life.

The DBS  is offered only in English at this time.

No, we do not offer discounts or scholarships for our school tuitions.

The applicant must have successfully completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS), both the lecture and outreach phases.

We ask that the full tuition be paid before or on the first day of the school. If you are unable to submit the full tuition at this time, we ask that you contact the school leader at least two weeks before the school start date to make other arrangements. An alternative tuition-payment plan must be made with the school leader prior to the first day of classes.

Either a check made out to YWAM Minneapolis can be mailed to our office or payments can be made through PayPal on our website.

It is our general policy that spouses do not separate to take a YWAM school. We believe it is very important that families stay together. However, our family housing is very limited. Contact us early to inquire about availability.

You may drive or fly. Make sure to give us your itinerary as early as possible so that we can make arrangements to have someone greet you or pick you up from the Minneapolis/Saint Paul airport. The earliest you can arrive is one day before the school start date. We regretfully do not have the housing to accommodate arrivals before that.

All YWAM schools are live-in, full-time with no room in the schedule to maintain even a part-time job. Special circumstances for time given to flexible, online work during the course must be approved by the school leader prior to starting the school.

International applicants are welcome! However, all students are responsible for acquiring the appropriate visas and making their own travel arrangements.

You will stay in one of our houses and share a room with other students in a dormitory type of living arrangement. Bathrooms and showers are shared with other residents. Meals are eaten in a common dining room.
