DTS ELECTIVES

Combine Your Gifts And Your Passion For God

Did you ever think your passions and serving God could overlap?

God has planted unique gifts and passions inside of you! He wants to use who you are to impact the world. Our electives are 2-4 hour sessions each week where you explore a subject that can enhance God’s calling on your life.

Whether it’s learning about ministries and cultures within our city, better understanding human trafficking and what you can do about it, speaking a new language, or spending time learning about the heart of worship – you’ve come to the right place. God is in it all and He will speak to you about the things that you are most passionate and excited about!

Women at Risk Elective

There are many reasons a person may be at risk. These include exploitation, slavery, abuse, substance abuse, disease, war and others. A woman at risk is someone who is experiencing one or more of these circumstances or is in a situation which leaves her vulnerable. This DTS Elective offers the unique opportunity to gain understanding and insight into the dilemma of women at risk and be equipped to come along side them as they journey toward healing and wholeness. Receive teaching from those who have been on the front line in working with vulnerable women. In addition to the core DTS topics, you will also cover these themes: recognizing the risks that women face; gaining God’s heart for women; understanding a framework for counseling and care; learning basic principles for launching and leading ministries that reach women at risk.

Worship Elective

Worship for a disciple of Jesus is like breathing; inhaling deeply of His love and truth and exhaling adoration and praise. During your DTS, you will join a community that values and loves the rhythms of worship. The worship elective opens a door for you to dig even deeper. How does God define true worship? How does worship fuel a passion for the nations? We’ll go after these questions and live out the answers together! Whether or not you are a musician or vocalist, you will have opportunities to grow in skill, leadership & teamwork, at YWAM, on the streets of Minneapolis and on your outreach! You will learn from experienced worship leaders, song writers and missionaries. Above all, we will passionately pursue a pure devotion to the worthiness of Jesus himself!

Cities Elective

You want to be at the heart of it all – experiencing different cultures, the arts (theaters, music, dance, museums), parks and lakes, coffee shops and ethnic restaurants AND you want to make a real difference…to be there – listening to a homeless woman’s story, sharing Jesus with a university student who’s had no opportunity to hear about Him in his own country, feeding the hungry, learning first-hand about social justice issues and so much more. Weekly, with the city as our classroom, you will engage in life and ministry, growing in your relationship with God and others.

Spanish Language Elective

Do you know that the process of becoming bilingual exercises your brain, challenges you to concentrate and boosts your problem-solving skills? Maybe you always have loved Spanish and Hispanic culture, maybe you feel God calling you to missions in Latin America, maybe you just want to work on the Spanish you learned during high school. No matter the reason, the Spanish Language Elective will bring your knowledge of Spanish to the next level. Weekly conversations, reading and grammar classes plus the opportunity to be part of a multicultural group of students will enrich your understanding of both Spanish culture and language. Soccer Elective

It’s the sport that brings the world together! And it’s an avenue through which God can reveal Himself regardless a person’s hardships, background, or family upbringing. Soccer has its own language through which God can speak to so many. Come join us as we explore God’s purpose for every individual and His heart for this broken world while enjoying this beautiful game. And in the process, we will reach out to the lonely and make Jesus known.

Simple Health Care

This fall at YWAM Minneapolis, we will have a Simple Health Care DTS Elective. If you have a passion to see hearts changed, and also help with the health care needs of those in the communities around the world, this is the elective for you. Some of the topics will be:
