NEXT LEADERSHIP SCHOOL
Know Yourself, Your Gifts, And Your Strengths Better While Gaining Leadership Skills

WHY DO A SECONDARY SCHOOL?

While DTS is primarily focused on who God is and developing an intimate relationship with Him, secondary schools focus on developing your skills, knowledge and abilities to better equip you to be a more effective carrier of the Good News of Jesus. They also help you go deeper in your relationship with God and strengthen your foundation of faith.

NEXT School - Leadership Training

our focus

NEXT, also known as the School of Ministry Development (SOMD),  focuses on leadership and character growth. You will better know yourself, your gifts and your strengths while gaining leadership skills and putting action to your passions for ministry. We look at the life of Jesus for our model of authentic servant leadership. Opportunities to teach, disciple, lead, succeed, fail, and live together in community are all part of what makes this school so effective. The Training Phase is followed by the opportunity to develop a two-month internship with an established ministry that allows you to put it all together with practical application. It’s the NEXT thing to do!

COURSE PROGRAM

Weekly activities that strengthen and challenge you as one who is being led and learning to lead.

Classroom Learning

Every week you will have the opportunity to hear and respond to teaching from experienced leaders on topics like Church Planting, Intercultural Communication, Servant Leadership, Spiritual Gifts, Evangelism, Worldview, and Biblical Models for Missions. All are designed to challenge you to discover and grow in how God is calling you to apply your influence in building His Kingdom.

Homework Assignments

The Next school assignments are designed to help you apply the things you are learning about leadership and serving. Through reading, journaling, creative projects, and local outreach, you will be able to process and apply the principles of godly leadership that will undergird your calling. And of course, the more you put into your assignments, the more you will get out of them!

One-on-One Processing

Your school leaders will assign you a mentor throughout the Training Phase. These weekly one-on-one meetings will help you apply what God is teaching you, help you process your decisions, help you develop strategies, and at the same time, help you remain focused on growing in your relationship with God.

Worship & Prayer

YWAM is dedicated to worship Jesus Christ and engage in intercessory prayer as an integral aspect of daily life. You will take part in regular corporate and personal worship along with leading times of intercession for the nations.

Work Duties

Work Duties (aka Community Responsibilities) are an opportunity to give back to the YWAM ministry by helping steward what God has entrusted to us. Together with other students you will serve in the kitchen, housekeeping and taking care of the ministry vehicles. This will be a part of your growth and development as a leader.

Community Living

Disciples and leaders grow best when walking in right relationship with others.  You will study, eat, sleep, and seek God together with those who are part of the YWAM Minneapolis community. We strive to express our love through honoring and serving each other. We want our community to be a place where people feel welcome and safe.

A Student's Perspective

“Before the NEXT school, I didn’t really understand how I could be a leader. This school helped me discover, understand, and function in my strengths as a leader.  Now I know that I can lead by using what God has given me to serve Him and others.”

FAQ'S

While an outreach is technically not required for secondary schools, we  strongly encourage students to do an outreach after the lecture phase. Outreach allows the information and experiences from the Lecture Phase to become more a part of your life.

We offer the NEXT school in English and Spanish.

No, we do not offer discounts or scholarships for our school tuitions.

The applicant must have successfully completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS), both the lecture and outreach phases.

We ask that the full tuition be paid before or on the first day of the school. If you are unable to submit the full tuition at this time, we ask that you contact the school leader at least two weeks before the school start date to make other arrangements. An alternative tuition-payment plan must be made with the school leader prior to the first day of classes.

Either a check made out to YWAM Minneapolis can be mailed to our office or payments can be made through PayPal.

It is our general policy that spouses do not separate to take a YWAM school. We believe it is very important that families stay together. However, our family housing is very limited. Contact us early to inquire about availability.

You may drive or fly. Make sure to give us your itinerary as early as possible so that we can make arrangements to have someone greet you or pick you up from the Minneapolis/Saint Paul airport. The earliest you can arrive is one day before the school start date. We regretfully do not have the housing to accommodate arrivals before that.

All YWAM schools are live-in, full-time with no room in the schedule to maintain even a part-time job. Special circumstances for time given to flexible, online work during the course must be approved by the school leader prior to starting the school.

International applicants are welcome! However, all students are responsible for acquiring the appropriate visas and making their own travel arrangements.

You will stay in one of our houses and share a room with other students in a dormitory type of living arrangement. Bathrooms and showers are shared with other residents. Meals are eaten in a common dining room.
